Hallucinogens are a diverse group of drugs known as stimulants that cause a variety of sensory hallucinations, changing a person’s awareness level which affects their senses (sight, sound, smell, taste and touch) and can also alter thoughts and feelings.

LSD interacts with the serotonin receptors in the brain causing hallucinogenic effects that can last twelve hours or more. While pleasurable hallucinations might include an expansion of the range of colors, sound, and visual sensations, negative effects can include very unpleasant or scary sensations, such as bugs crawling on one’s skin, snakes slithering across the floor, or any other fear that can become impacted and pronounced under the influence of hallucinogens.
